The short answer
Searching for an orthodontist in Richmond Hill? At Aurora Gateway Dental Care in Aurora, Dr. Farhad Sobouti, DDS, MSc (Orthodontics), FRCDC, provides our orthodontic treatment, including metal braces, ceramic braces and clear aligners. From Richmond Hill, take Yonge Street or Bayview Avenue north to Wellington Street East, about 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic.

Why Richmond Hill patients come to Aurora
Once braces are on, adjustment visits come every 4 to 12 weeks until treatment ends. For a teen at a Richmond Hill high school, those visits need to fit around classes, practices and part-time jobs. We are open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, which gives families in Jefferson, near Yonge Street and Gamble Road, or anywhere else in town, some choice beyond the school day.
It can also help when the same office looks after the rest of the mouth. Here, cleanings and checkups can happen in the same building as braces visits, so plaque around brackets is spotted early. We bill all insurance plans directly, and we explain your payment options before treatment starts, so the long-term plan is clear from day one.
About the word "orthodontist" in Ontario
Many people type "Richmond Hill orthodontist" when they start looking for braces. In Ontario, the title orthodontist is reserved for dentists registered as specialists in orthodontics with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. We do not use that title for any of our dentists. Dr. Sobouti holds a master's degree in orthodontics and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and he provides our orthodontic treatment. You can look up any dentist's registration on the RCDSO public register.
Choosing braces in Richmond Hill: metal, ceramic or aligners
There is more than one way to move teeth. The right choice depends on the bite problem, the age of the patient and how much daily effort they can give. Here is how the options we offer compare in plain terms:
- Metal braces: stay on all the time and handle a wide range of crowding and bite problems.
- Ceramic braces: work like metal braces, with tooth-coloured brackets that are harder to spot.
- Clear aligners: removable trays that must be worn about 22 hours a day to work.
- Retainers: worn after any of these to hold teeth in their new place.
When to have a child checked
Some bite problems are easier to guide while the jaws are still growing. A first orthodontic check around age seven lets the dentist see how the adult teeth are coming in. Most children do not need treatment at that age; often the advice is simply to watch and check again. Adults can have braces too, as long as the gums and bone are healthy.

Questions
How often will we drive up from Richmond Hill during treatment?
Usually every 4 to 12 weeks while the braces are on, plus the longer visit when they are placed and the visit when they come off. Most adjustment visits are short. Retainer checks after treatment are less frequent.
Can my teen come to adjustment visits on transit after school?
Many teens do take Viva and YRT. A parent or guardian should come to the first assessment and the planning visit so treatment can be explained and agreed. After that, tell us how your teen will travel and we will book times that work.
Is Dr. Sobouti an orthodontist?
We do not describe him with that title. Dr. Farhad Sobouti, DDS, MSc (Orthodontics), FRCDC, provides our orthodontic treatment. If a case calls for a referral to another office, we will explain why.
What should we do if a bracket breaks between visits?
Cover any sharp edge with orthodontic wax and call us. A loose bracket is rarely urgent, but we will tell you whether to come in sooner or wait for your next visit.
Will insurance pay toward braces?
Some workplace plans include orthodontic coverage, often with a lifetime limit, and some do not. We can send a predetermination so you know what your plan expects to pay before treatment starts.
