Invisalign near Richmond Hill

Clear aligners do most of their work while you go about your day. For Richmond Hill commuters and students, that means only occasional trips north to Aurora to check progress.

The short answer

For Invisalign in Richmond Hill and nearby, Aurora Gateway Dental Care offers clear aligner treatment at our clinic on Wellington Street East at Bayview Avenue in Aurora. Dr. Farhad Sobouti assesses whether aligners suit your bite. From Richmond Hill, take Bayview Avenue, Yonge Street or Highway 404 north, about 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic.

Why Richmond Hill patients come to Aurora

Many people in Richmond Hill spend their weekdays somewhere else: an office downtown, a campus, a job along Highway 7. Aligners suit that kind of life, because you switch trays at home and only come in for progress checks every so often. When you do visit, Tuesday and Thursday times until 7 p.m. and Saturday times from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. let you come outside the workday. Parking is in front of the plaza.

Dr. Farhad Sobouti, DDS, MSc (Orthodontics), FRCDC, provides our orthodontic treatment, including aligners. If he feels braces would move your teeth more predictably, he will say so. Post-secondary students can ask about our student program, and we bill all insurance plans directly.

Getting started with Invisalign from Richmond Hill

The first step is an assessment. Dr. Sobouti checks your teeth, gums, bite and jaw, and takes photos, X-rays and digital (3D) scans. From those records, a series of trays is planned, each moving your teeth a small step. You see the planned movement and an expected timeline before you agree to anything.

Any cavities or gum problems are treated before aligners start, so it helps to have a checkup first if it has been a while.

Living with aligners day to day

Aligners only work while they are in, which means about 22 hours a day. Building a few routines makes that easier:

  • Keep a travel case, a small brush and a water bottle in your bag or car.
  • Take trays out for meals and anything other than plain water.
  • Brush or at least rinse before putting trays back in.
  • Set a phone reminder for switching to the next set.
  • Never wrap trays in a napkin at a restaurant; it is an easy way to lose them.

When braces may be the better tool

Aligners handle crowding, gaps and many mild to moderate bite concerns well. Some movements, like large rotations of rounded teeth or major bite changes, are often more predictable with fixed braces. Teens whose adult teeth are still coming in may also do better with braces. We offer metal and ceramic braces too, so the advice you get is about your teeth, not about one product.

Questions

How often will I need to come to Aurora during Invisalign?

After the start of treatment, progress checks are usually spaced several weeks apart. The exact gap depends on your plan. Most of the work happens at home as you switch trays on schedule.

I commute from Richmond Hill to Toronto. Can I fit visits around work?

Yes, many patients book Tuesday or Thursday evenings or Saturdays. Book your next check before you leave each visit, since those times fill first.

Who decides whether I can have Invisalign?

Dr. Sobouti makes the recommendation after your assessment. He will explain what aligners can and cannot do for your bite, and whether braces may suit you better.

What happens if I go on a trip in the middle of treatment?

Tell us ahead of time. We may give you your next sets of trays to take along, so you can keep switching on schedule while you are away.

Will insurance help pay for clear aligners?

If your plan has orthodontic coverage, it may pay toward aligners the same way it would for braces, often up to a lifetime limit. We can send a predetermination before you start.
