Why Newmarket patients come to Aurora

Many people who look into veneers from Newmarket have been thinking about one chipped or uneven tooth for years. The first step is a relaxed conversation, and we keep that easy to fit in, with evenings until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Veneers usually take at least two visits a few weeks apart, while bonding is often done in one. Because the trip from Newmarket is short and parking is free at the door, the gap between visits is simple to manage. Dr. Bita Tahghighi has advanced training in cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry, and every option is explained before you decide.

Newmarket veneers or bonding: which fits your teeth?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells made in a dental lab and bonded to the front of the teeth. They hold their colour well and can change the shape and shade of several teeth evenly. To make room for them, a thin layer of enamel is removed, so the change cannot be reversed.

Composite bonding is tooth-coloured resin shaped right on the tooth, hardened with a light and polished. Little or no enamel is removed. It suits small chips, worn edges and narrow gaps, but it stains and wears sooner than porcelain. Contouring smooths tiny amounts of enamel to even out a pointed or slightly long edge.

Between your veneer visits

At the first visit, the teeth are numbed and prepared, records are taken and sent to the lab, and temporary covers protect the teeth. While you wait for the porcelain, a few habits help.

  • Chew on the other side and skip hard or sticky foods
  • Floss by pulling the floss out sideways rather than up
  • Expect some sensitivity to cold for a short time
  • Call us if a temporary cover comes loose

Who veneers may not suit

Veneers and bonding are not a fix for decay or gum disease, which are treated first. Heavy grinding can chip porcelain and resin, so your dentist may suggest a night guard. If very little enamel is left, a crown can be the wiser choice. And if crooked teeth are the main concern, straightening them may keep more natural tooth than covering them.

Questions

How long does it take to get veneers?

Usually a consultation, a preparation visit and a fitting visit, with a few weeks of lab work in between. Bonding is often finished in one visit. Your dentist will give you a timeline for your case.

How many trips from Newmarket will veneers take?

Plan on at least three: the consultation, the preparation and the fitting, plus a check afterwards. If whitening or other treatment comes first, that adds visits.

My only concern is one chipped tooth. Is a veneer overkill?

Often it is. A small chip can usually be rebuilt with bonding in a single visit, keeping more enamel. A single veneer is possible, but matching it to the teeth beside it takes careful shade work. Your dentist will show you both.

Will veneers or bonding need replacing one day?

Yes, eventually. Porcelain tends to outlast resin, which picks up stain and wears at the edges. Wearing a night guard if you grind, and not using your teeth to open things, helps either one last longer.

Will I need freezing?

Small bonding and contouring often need none. Veneer preparation usually does, and we tell you what is happening at each stage.
