Our team is committed to providing compassionate, timely, and professional care to newcomers, refugees, and protected persons in urgent need of dental treatment.

Am I Eligible for IFHP Dental Coverage?

The IFHP provides emergency dental care to treat pain, infection, or trauma for certain newcomer groups to Canada, including:

  • Protected persons, including resettled refugees
  • Refugee claimants
  • Other specific eligible newcomer groups

If you meet these criteria, you can access emergency dental services to manage urgent oral health needs.

What Dental Services Are Covered?

IFHP dental coverage is focused solely on emergency relief.

Routine care is not included. Eligible emergency services include:

Emergency oral exams

  • X-rays
  • Caries, trauma, and pain control
  • Writing or dispensing emergency prescriptions
  • Simple tooth extractions
  • Denture relines and repairs

Pre-Authorization Required

Some services require prior approval under the IFHP program:

  • Amalgam or composite restorations for severely affected teeth
  • Complicated dental extractions

Complete and partial dentures

What Dental Services Are Covered

The IFHP program does not cover:

  • Root canal treatments
  • Orthodontics
  • Intravenous sedation or nitrous oxide
  • Routine prophylaxis and fluoride
  • Restoration of minor lesions or cavities not visible on X-ray
  • Scaling and root planing

If your dental needs fall outside emergency care, our team can guide you toward affordable treatment options.

When Should I Seek Emergency Dental Care?

Seek help immediately if you experience:

  • Oral-facial trauma
  • Significant dental infection

Timely care can prevent complications, relieve pain, and protect your oral health.
