Why Stouffville patients come to Aurora

Many Stouffville parents start out searching for a pediatric dentist in Stouffville and then realize what they mostly want is a kind, patient clinic with times that suit school. We see children from their very first visit, and we keep appointments unhurried. Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. mean fewer missed classes and a less stressful drive.

For families near Ballantrae or Musselman's Lake, Aurora Road is a direct country route west to our door. CDCP coverage for eligible kids is accepted, and we send claims to all insurance plans directly. If your child is more at ease in Farsi, Tamil or Tagalog, ask for a team member who speaks that language when you book.

Looking for a paediatric dentist in Stouffville? What to know

A paediatric dentist is a dentist who has completed extra specialty training in treating children. Our clinic is not a paediatric dental office, and we do not use that title. Our general dentists care for children as part of family dentistry. Most kids need checkups, cleanings, fluoride, sealants and the occasional small filling, and that is the care we provide.

If your child needs treatment that a paediatric dental office is better set up for, such as care under general anaesthetic or a very complex case, we will explain why and help with the referral.

Kids' dentist visits for Stouffville families, age by age

What we focus on changes as your child grows. Here is a rough guide:

  • Babies and toddlers: a short look at the teeth and gums, and tips on teething, bottles and brushing.
  • Preschoolers: practice sitting in the chair, counting teeth, and fluoride varnish if helpful.
  • School age: checking for cavities between back teeth, sealants on new adult molars, and watching how adult teeth come in.
  • Teens: bite and spacing checks, wisdom tooth monitoring with X-rays when needed, and mouthguards for sports.

Preparing your child for the visit

Children take their cues from you. Keep the description short and positive, such as "the dentist will count your teeth and check they are strong." Avoid promising that nothing will happen, and skip words like "needle" or "hurt." Reading a picture book about the dentist the night before can help. If your child had a hard time at another office, tell us when you book so we can plan a slower first visit.

Questions

We live near Ballantrae. Which way is quickest?

Aurora Road west is usually simplest from the north end of Whitchurch-Stouffville. It turns into Wellington Street East once you cross Highway 404, and our plaza is near Bayview Avenue.

Do I need to pull my Stouffville student out of school for a checkup?

Not necessarily. We are open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those times are popular, so book a few weeks ahead.

Will my child have X-rays at every visit?

No. Your dentist takes X-rays only when they are needed, based on your child's age, risk of cavities and what the exam shows. We use digital X-rays.

What are sealants, and does my child need them?

A sealant is a thin protective layer brushed into the deep grooves on chewing surfaces, where food and germs tend to collect. They are often suggested when the first adult molars come in, around age six. Your dentist will tell you whether they make sense for your child.

Can I bring my other children along to the visit?

Yes. Siblings can wait with you, and if they are due for checkups too, ask whether we can see them in the same trip. It can make the drive from Stouffville more worthwhile.
